Celebration of Hope report!!!!!

Posted by nikao4jc on February 5, 2008 at 1:52 PM
Background:  During 2007, Pastor accepted the position to become the Head of Mobilization for the Celebration Of Hope (COH) project in Malaysia.

COH was created by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) to help Christians share their faith with family and friends through different forms of media and their own personal testimony.  COH has been used in Central America, India, Philippines and other nations with TREMENDOUS results.

Pastor's job was to assemble a group of mobilizers and travel all throughout Malaysia, training every participating local church to share their faith and equip them to reach their friends and family members.  It was exhausting work as he had to travel most days of the week and sometimes spoke in as many as 7 church services in one day.

What did our family do:  As I wrote in a previous update, we invited the families of two of my youth to dinner and a movie with a positive message.

The dinner was nice and everyone was enjoying the evening.  As we showed the movie, Leni's mother was greatly touched.  Afterwards I (Nick) shared my testimony about how God had touched my life and my belief that Christ was the source of hope in life's problems.

What happened:  It was pretty tense stuff.  Anytime you just "put it out there" especially to those who are not even "cultural Christians", it is awkward.  The families listened attentively to what was said and we found that the time of talking afterwards produced more openness.  In the end, there were no decisions to respond to God... however, I am not discouraged by that because so many times I have seen "decisions" with no semblance of change so that, I feel, is useless.  (James 2:17).

So now, we will follow up with these two families and continue to build the relationships we have.  They are open to hearing more about our faith and Theban's family even asked to borrow The Passion of the Christ (which was not shown, nor mentioned).

What happened nationally:  On a national scale, hundreds of churches in Malayisa were participating in this event during the same three nights.  Nine months of prayer and training all culminating in a short three days.  Although data is still being collected from these churches, 60% have given their results and there have been...

9,000 first time responses to the love of God!!!!
6,000 rededications!!!!

This is extremely exciting and unprecedented in this nation!  Now, please pray for the churches who will be discipling these new believers and for great new things to come from this experience.
